Abstract: This study examines the distinctive role of perception of consonants that can distinguish between vowels using formant transitions for three places of articulation: bilabial /b/, alveolar /d/ and velar /k/ of Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) with the vowels / a /, / i / and / u /. It allows specifying numerically the shape and speed of formant trajectories, and the duration of these vowels. The procedure is based on the exploitation of transitions obtained from the spectrogram and determining their time constant.
